Friday September 6. Hot, 28C.
A very solid sleep then a lazy morning as some 800 souls slowly vacated the ship and 880 more arrived throughout the day. Most had to be out of their cabins by 8:00 AM.
We were off a bit after 9:00 and took the public bus and then the train to a suburb [?] of this giant mass of humanity called Tokyo. The name of the area is Shibuya, it is a city within a city. As a matter of fact everywhere we went today in our travels it is like a giant spiral of humanity. Well organized, neat and tidy but just continuous!
We eventually got to Shibuya after getting lost and befuddled several times. Somebody told us earlier that if you get lost, just stand there and look lost and somebody will approach you and help. It worked, three times!
We asked a well spoken older woman at the Info Centre where a particular street, Takeshita, was. She said "You don't want to go there it is only for nine year old girls!" She then explained why, told us how to get there then gave us some tips and a map showing something similar, but more adult somewhat closer so we followed her advice.
We visited a giant department store called 109. It was 10 floors of all things to do with young women's fashions. It is amazing how these young Japanese girls. [13 to 25] [???] can dress so fashionably yet so simply, I have difficulty comprehending it yet alone describing it. It was an education indeed.
We ate at a well established Japanese food establishment called MacDonalds and started the journey home. That turned out to be more complicated than getting there but we did it.
Back to the ship around 2:00 where passengers were still trickling aboard, we had a cup of tea in a lounge, a lie down, then a shower and out again at 6:00 PM for a three hour tour of 'An Evening in Tokyo" My, we are getting brave aren't we?
At our destination after 3/4 of an hour of travel.
Our appointed destination: All things fashionable for girls. The pretty sales clerks all looked like China Dolls all chicly dressed up.
I had difficulty photoing and these are not good examples but the one in the black dress and white blouse is getting close.
Now there are two examples. [The girls!]
Long dress and boots. They really are beautiful and look so gracious and chick on the girls. Gorgeous in fact.
That clerk behind Fellette is an example of what I mean. All sorts of simple hats as well.
More.
Making a bit more of a statement.
Fluffy stuff as well. Grand daughter Alicia likes this style and looks lovely in it. She orders stuff from Japan and it is often cheaper abroad because of the tax situation here.
More.
Only $10.80 for four! Asian Pears.
A visit to a grocery store was a bit of a shocker regarding prices!
Now we are talking! We got on a train today and a man about 35 started to get up and give me his seat. I had to get him to sit down and took my hat off to show him that I still had some black hair. I guess that 35 year old that I see in the morning is a figment of my imagination.
Yup, still here!
A Selfie taken tonight up on the Tokyo Skytree. Quite striking views from there and a tour of Tokyo at Night. Does it sleep? My gosh it is a busy place here!
