Split, Croatia...

As we pulled into Split Harbour early this morning, winds were gusting to 45 knots per hour. We were up in the Lido having a hearty 'going-ashore' breakfast, which is a bit heavier than my usual porridge and fruit. Suddenly the Captain comes on the intercom and a hush settles over the restaurant. It was too dangerous to use the tenders in this weather and we were splitting from Split. The ship is too big to dock in the harbour and the wind was not forecast to abate.

Initially we were all disappointed, some still are, but that is the way it is, so get on with it. In reality it was a blessing in disguise. The last two days we have walked our feet off and Fellette and I were in bed at 8.30 last night and still woke up tired. We did do pilates this morning and that is a bit of a killer for us. Today we attended one lecture during which we both fell asleep, Fellette had two scrabble games and I retired to the cabin after lunch coming to life only to go to dinner. I intend to hit the sack early again tonight so that tomorrow will be a 'normal' day, physically at least.

So... I do not have pictures of Split so here are a few from Venice that did not make the cut.

The purses spread out on sheets is a Nigerian thing it seems. They walk around with a sack full of knock-off purses or sun glasses and set them up when and where they can. It is a bit like a cat and mouse game between them and the "Knock-Off Polizia"

  1. Fellette, you look beautiful in your very elegant lacey top and black pants ---

INTERESTING picture of the very NARROW canal between the buildings -- looked a little frightening to me - water up against the buildings looks threatening (to me).
The architecture in Venice is unbelievable - it is so beautiful.
