Monday, February 8. Clear as a bell.
Today was a day I was not looking forward to. As the designated driver I have been anxious to get this part of the vacation over with... driving through Los Angeles. Los Angeles starts at Santa Monica and seems to be still happening at Newport Beach.
Translated to understandable language, it is one hour of white knuckle driving. The speed limit is 65 mph, [110 kph], but at that speed you are a traffic hazard. The flow of traffic was 80 mpg, 128 kph]. At the time we were whipping along we had three navigators plus our Tom Tom navigating system. At that speed I rather felt like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. There is not a lot of room for hesitation or doubt at that speed. Most times it was three or four lanes, on occasion six lanes. There are constant splits and exits, plus merging traffic.
It was good to get back to the coast route and piddle our way into San Diego. We pulled in to the entrance of this most beautiful hotel around 3.00. A short time to settle down and get cleaned up and out for the best meal on the whole trip. The bed was also about the best.
Our day was riveting to experience but dull as heck. So, instead I will pass some of the photos we received from our kids when the Olympic Torch passed through our neighbourhood yesterday.
My sister sent me a picture taken very early this morning, [Tuesday], however as she explained there were so many flashing lights about that she is not sure what she got a picture of. She however did have the 'Torch Experience!'
As you can see, the hype is there!
