Walking around Galway...

Friday, June 12. Cloudy.

We were on our own this morning so we had a leisurely morning, breakfast in the Pinnacle, we were the only ones there, Fellette had oatmeal and I had kippers!!! After that we went to the lifeboats and afer a 20 minute ride were in Galway.

It is one of the larger towns/cities in Ireland and appears to be strung out along the coast for some distance. There is no dock and the water is shallow so we are about a mile offshore, at least.

We found it to be a very interesting city to walk in, no big building where we were, just offices and shops, a bit of an interesting section that is absolutely full of photographic opportunities, as you will se below.

My Irish doctor at home recommended Murphy's Stout. Not everybody serves it so it took a bit of searching. It is dark, like the more poppular Guiness, but not as bitter. I had a 1/2 pint and another when we had a bowl of soup in a 700 year old pub.

I also had my glasses fixed where one of the tips of the earpice had chipped off and scratched my head. They could not find a black one that fit so I have one black and one brown, I call them my Irish Glasses. Cost: the equivalent of $5.00.

We were in Galway for several hours, returning somewhat after 2:00. Fellette grabbed a tea and I looked at the photos and decided to study the ceiling above the bed. Great day.

The ship, as seen from the tender as we went ashore. Nice looking bow.

We two, in the tender.

We picked up some antihistamine for me today at Flanagans, [doesn't that sound quaint?] I have itchy skin, must be from the soap? I also have it sometimes at home, no worries.

Tourist Town I suppose, very interesting, sort of like Amsterdam without the sex and drugs. Tourism is large in Ireland, it helps them get over the lumpy parts of the economy, and the EU.

Following are some photos that I thought that I would share with you.

There, they serve Murphy's!

If the walls could tell stories...

Says it all.

So does this.

One of the taller buildings in the area.

These guys were very good and they were doing OK regarding money as well.

This archway had to be the original, around 700 years ago I imagine.

My first Murphy's Stout.

Potato and leek soup, also served in a 700+ year old building, renovated of course.

There it is, The Malt House.

  1. I'm loving Fellette's Aran jacket - both modern and classic. But I'm not sure about that old fellow in the cap that she was with!!!
