Late start then a short journey to Lamego which is a pilgrimage town where the Cathedral at the top, Our Lady of Remedies, is/was a required ordeal once in your life to climb the 686 steps to the top, on your knees. Gad, on our feet was bad enough.
The less adventuresome or unable to walk the route up, were taken by bus. Strangely, we walkers made it to the top the same time as the bus because of the windy and narrow streets in town.
Once there, time to catch our breath, peek in the cathedral and start down again. Near the bottom there was a drink and bite to eat before we went back to the ship, getting in just in time for a lunch. We chose the lighter option in the lounge.
Once aboard again we had a delightful and well deserved afternoon on our own where we read, checked photos, did the blog and nodded off. Oh, How Sweet it is!
We sailed at 5:00 for a few hours before stopping for the night. The river is so short that we only sail in daylight so we do not miss anything. A very pleasant way to travel. We do not seem to be on a tourist route as we never bump into buses or other groups.
Tonight was a Portuguese Dinner. We were expecting something heavy but it was a modern day dinner and it was delightful. We seem to have fallen in with a bunch of eastern Canadians who are a lot of fun, plus one neat fellow from Atlanta.
My gosh, one could gain weight just looking at the food. I have not paid for a glass of wine or a beer since boarding, a bit of a pleasant surprise.

Approaching the steps to the top. Fellette in pink slacks.
One of about eight landings.
Find Fellette.
Fellette and Cruise Director Louis at the last landing.
Another rest stop on the way up.
Coming down was more relaxing.
More formal gardens.
Gross?
Strolling through town later.
Some sprinkles did not deter us.
I have no idea what this building is, it just looks great!
Same building.
Treasures from hundreds of years, even thousands of years ago.
Your litter awaits madame!
Those were the days!
Awaiting the coach to take us home!
The town of Lamego is in the mountains, views such as this all the way back to the ship.
Down to the river again, and lunch.
The sun came out from time to time.
Often, our table for dinner.
