"To The Ship!"...

Tuesday, June 5. Cloudy, rain.

Up and at 'em early today. By early I mean early departure: we were on the bus and rolling by 8:15. Next stop Salamanca on the way to to the ship that is at the Portuguese border 4 hours west of Madrid. Most of us still have some sort of tiredness, some from the journey and some from the business in Madrid.

They had two large busses today so we could spread out more. We each had a seat and there was scads of room aboard. Nice drive.

It was spitting in Salamanca when we set out on a walking tour of this two thousand year old town. The University was founded 800 years ago. The original Roman Bridge still spans the river in the town.

We then had a very sumptuous lunch in a Five Star Hotel. Gad, does it get any better? After that, we got back on a new super-duper Portuguese Bus and headed for the border. Most people nodded off as the weather deteriorated more and more. We put our watches back one hour and boarded the ship and were soon in our delightfully spacious and well equipped cabin.

Fellette unpacked while I did the important work of getting everything connected Internet-wise and started the blog.

Safety meeting at 6:00, dinner at 7:00, bed soon thereafter. We spend the night moored here in Spain and sail across the border in the middle of the river and start our journey downstream tomorrow towards Oporto, Portugal. Good day, nice to be staying put in one room for a while!

Salamanca

Merely 800 years old.

Earlier in the day outside the Hotel in Madrid.
Enroute.

Salamanca.

Too massive to take in.

Window fare.

Great cured ham. The pigs are fattened on acorns prior to slaughter.

A private residence in old Salamanca.

Our ship, moored in Spain, across the river is Portugal.

Vineyards in Portugal.

Portugal.

Bonanza! 50 feet from our cabin door, a fancy coffee maker!!!
