Thursday, August 15. Cooler, clear.
So far we have fulfilled our goal of "Sleeping all the way to Russia", only 13 more days to go.
This ship doesn't seem to have the same 'sound' as others, we cannot seem to hear or feel the 'throb' of the engines/motors, just a noise that sounds like an air conditioner, far away. Also, the absence of authority is conspicuous by their absence. So far it appears to be an 'Officerless Ship', run by a very happy and pleasant crew.
I assume however in the more formal dining room that may be different. When we were walking last night after dinner we could see in the dining room and it looked all too familiar: more formal and locked in your seat for far too long a time, restricted to conversation with your immediate neighbours. Somehow, after last night's experience in the very nice Buffet, I am not so sure about Dining Room dinners. Time will tell.
This ship seems to have an entirely different feel to it. I suppose some would say 'quiet': we like it. There is the sense that 'the management' gives you this feel on purpose: just to enjoy the passing scenery and have some dignified time to your own. There are no Casinos, Art Auctions, Bingo or photographers wandering about and encouraging you to buy a video of the cruise or last night's pictures. There was not even a photographer waiting to take a shot boarding.
I could just stay in the cabin and watch the mountains slip by and read my books and nod off. This is sheer heaven to me, right now, forced relaxation.
My major accomplishments today were...
1. Getting to understand how the shower water temperature regulator works!
2. Getting two bottles of a nice wine in the fridge here for casual consumption!
This is probably NOT what many of you looking at the blog were expecting to hear! However, at this writing we are just on the northern end of the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Tomorrow: Ketchikan, Alaska, this is an Tender Port, meaning we get ashore by lifeboats, Always exciting.

This is the ship that Wally and Katrina sailed on last year. [Wally informed me that it would be passing in an hour by his being able to track our ship and see surrounding traffic.] What an amazing world!
This is what greeted us this morning. Just water and trees!
Just like home.
The covered swimming pool. Looks inviting early morning.
You have a choice, wash you hands or hand gel on entering the Buffet.
Model of us.
No Grand Stairway of marble with winding staircase, just quiet elegance.
[To us.]
