Auckland, In The First World Again...

Thursday, February 2. Cloudy, 25 C. Docked in Auckland. 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

In spite of the threat of rain and heavy black storm clouds as we came in, in the very early morning, the weather was perfect today.

We Four walked off the ship around 9:00 AM with the purpose of topping up some supplies run down and odds and ends actually forgotten to pack.

Auckland is a very civilized city, the traffic is not horrendous, the people are pleasant and the architecture is a blend of 100 year old lovely stone buildings with mostly modern concrete and steel easy-on-the-eyes trendy-looking buildings. It is definitely a sea-going downtown area, three cruise ships in today and passenger commuter ferries running about the harbour. To see it still has some quaintness about it, like Vancouver was 60 years ago.

After we had done our duty-shopping Jim persuaded us to take one of those commuter ferries and zip over to Devonport, a 20 minute and four NZ dollar Ferry Ride away. It was nice to sit for those 20 minutes, [I wore my oxfords in error of runners and my feet were killing me.]

Devonport looks like an Edwardian English Seaside Village. Neat as a pin. We strolled the few streets of that settlement and then had lunch at the Ferry Terminal. Some had fish and chips or hamburger: Jim had octopus. Back to the ship soon after that and in short order two packages were delivered to our cabin. The long awaited socks for Doug and the wayward credit card mystery was solved. Thank you so much, Jeanette and Wally!!!

Lots Of Walking, But A Great Day...

The Auckland Tower, you can take a controlled cable drop from its rim.

The Strip in Devonport.

Wally tracked my socks and credit card with Apple Air Tags. Here they show them actually where the ship was docked.

And here they are!

14 pars of socks and a Credit Card. Does it get any better?
