Wellington...

Sunday, February 5, Wellington, NZ. 21 C, Cloudy all day, windy in spots.

A wandering day: no tours! The weather was forecast as iffy, but it never rained all day, it just seemed like it was always about to. The ship had a shuttle bus service to two locations in town, about a 20 minute ride. We took the bus and got off at the first stop, which was close by the foot of the Cable Car: $6.00 $NZ.  [$US 3.60.]

In NZ they have Volunteers, called Ambassadors that seem to be everywhere, ready to assist bewildered visitors with timely advice on where to find things and to guide and direct us how to get to where, safely.

The Cable Car ride was short, sweet and very interesting, at the top they have a small museum of the History of the Cable Car Ride and of the restoration procedure to get it operating again in the modern era. [Sorry, short on facts about this interesting operation.] After lingering at the top for some time we four meandered down through the elaborate Botanical Gardens to the city below. This took more like an hour, it was all downhill with some very interesting muscle and foot trials and tribulations for some more than others!

At the city level we split with Jim and Gail who had wider sight seeing goals than us today. There was a Foot Locker Shoe store and I eventually got fitted with what I hope is a proper set of walking/running shoes as I call them, that have more support for my tender tootsies than my recently purchased Canadian set that have  proved inadequate so far on this trip.

We eventually took the shuttle back to the ship, had a late bite to eat, did the blog and had a short relax time before preparing for dinner.

Of interest today was the fact that we told Jim and Gail at 7:30 when they finished their stretching class, that Doug would not be going on the walk today, or ever, until I got some decent footwear as my current inventory was not fit for our activity to date. Within 15 minutes a neighbour next door had given me two pair of his size 11 shoes that he also found too tight so had bought new shoes and said I could try his. I tried them, they fit and so I went on the walk. We later stopped to buy new shoes and asked Jim and Gail to carry on without us while I got fitted with shoes. That worked out fine for all four of us at turned out! I will utilize the neighbour’s one pair as well so I have a choice of footwear, a luxury for me.

A Good Day, Sensible Length Day…

Jim and Gail seated, about to start the Cable Car run up the hill.

My Honey ready to go up as well.

I love big hunks of old mechanical stuff made in the old days. This is a cable-pulling wheel, welded together from smaller cast iron parts.

A unique design wooden government building. Sorry, my feet were hurting too much for me to pay attention to what building it was! Government of some sort. [A better picture of the building than Fellette, the grind down the hill had a few tests forcs the feet and toes.]

A wall Mural.

A Mural more appropriate to NZ, that has many weird things going on.

My Joy of the day was these shoes, socks and protector.
