Hobbiton...

Friday, February 3. Tauranga, [HobbiTon site.] Cloudy 24 C.

We were on the bus for a 75 minute drive to HobbiTon, the site of The Lord of the Rings movie and later The Hobbit Series, by 9;30 am this morning.

I confess complete ignorance on all this stuff, Jim is the Resident Expert on all matters to do with Hobbits, bar none.

We were amazed when the bus driver asked about our familiarity on these matters by the response of this older generation. It appears that The hot thing with this crowd is to become Familiar and Fascinated by all Things To Do With Hobbits! [Where do they find the time?]

It was an absolutely fascinating day for us. It was made doubly so by seeing Jim’s pleasure in being in the best place he could ever wish for today. Like a kid in a candy store, overnight.

The bus driver was an elderly gent who told us about as much as he could without bothering us on the ride to and from Hobbit World, or more correctly, Inner Earth. Our Guide while on the site was a young knowledgeable New Zealand woman who lives in the area and has worked there for four years. Both very pleasant people for our interesting day here.

The Movie site is part of a very, very large Farm that a Movie Producer called Peter Jackson discovered a couple of decades ago and made an arrangement with the Farm Owner to lease for A Movie. The rest is history as they say! Even before the movie makers did their magic on the land, it was a wonderful and picturesque piece of property with flowing green hills with panoramas made for movie-making!

I found out only this morning that our Granddaughter Adrienne is a Hobbit Fanatic. So, we Lived Her Dream today.

A Super Day…

The entry to a dream scape…

The paths are littered with Hobbit homes occupied by special people who were characters in the movies,

It is very well maintained and it seems like the Hobbits will be coming back home any moment now.

Very inviting.

Fellette misses chopping wood so had a go at it.

Doesn’t that look inviting?

Just living the dream.

Made for Making Movies.

Can you get sense of the feeling there?

Gail taking Jim’s picture of a large Barrel of Ale, he wishes!

Adrienne may know some of these places, we don’t!
