Today we are in Kristiansand, Norway, located on the very southern tip of that country, very close to Sweden and Denmark. A town of 9,000.
We moored at 10.00 AM and walked off very shortly thereafter. The cute little choo-choo train shuttle at pier side cost U$14.00 per person, so we decided to walk off our breakfast. We did not have any must-sees here, except that we wanted to try and get to an open-air museum a bit north of town, but wanted to check out the town first.
Sorry to report that although neat, tidy and somewhat oldish, it did not hold a candle to the other colourful villages and towns we have seen recently.
We decided to take a cab out to the museum. Cabs are somewhat rare here and seem to be oblivious at our attempts to hail them. It clouded over and started to drizzle so we sought sanctuary in a ultra-modern two story shopping mall and used the WCs and had a coffee. Back to the ship for a late lunch and a quiet afternoon on board.
The language here is a bit of a problem, but most Norwegians speak English. Signs are another matter however, but the awning sign was easy to interpret.
I made telephone contact with Wally at 7.55 AM Vancouver time and he also handed the phone to Craig. It was nice to hear their voices. Our attempt to talk to Jeanette was not successful however, the signal was lost. We received a rather lengthy report from Jeanette via email of Farm news and activities related to Rob's Glass Studio that he is setting up. All is going well. The vegetable garden we put in at the Farm is doing well and the bounty is overflowing. I am anxious to get going on our own garden patch but that will not happen for some time yet.
A day at sea tomorrow, then we arrive at Dover where we disembark and head to Chalfont St. Giles, Ian and Judy's home where we will stay for some 10-11 days. We hope to do some home handy man jobs whilst there. It will be nice to destruct or construct something again.
Sorry that our last port was not more exciting for you. [And us!]
Believe it or not our clocks go BACK one hour tonight as we sync up with British Summer Time.
