The first day of the year...

Friday, January 1, 2016. Cool again.

The Rose Bowl parade was the first order of business after a cooked breakfast prepared with great care by our hosts.  Then, after a too short break it was off for today's route march, some distance from the residence.

Gail and Fellette always seem to end up at the head of the pack. But the pack looks more like two different groups of strollers to a casual observer. The route today was different entirely from the previous two walks. This was over hill and dale in the environmentally sensitive areas between developments. They are left untouched and are really quite pleasant to observe and to walk in.

We did about 7000 steps which comes to a few miles. The only downside was the chill and the two coffees that I had earlier have become superfluous to my body and are looking for an escape. A friendly copse of trees by the trail alleviated the problem.

Home and soon lunch then it was nap time for Doug. I believe a football game or two were in progress during this time. One of Gail's grandsons, Daniel came for dinner. Well, after he arrived the conversation and intensity of things increased greatly, in a nice way. Daniel solved a nasty iPhone problem for Gail with a pesky app that was installed and became a nuisance and hard to get rid of.

Daniel is like Yann at CTI, anything electronic is fair game and can be fixed intuitively. Next was my camera that had some images stuck in the internal memory. Fixed in under two minutes.

Jim cooked steaks for dinner ably assisted by Gail and Danial who seems to be too good to be true. He prepared the salad and did the entire cleanup while we four chatted.

The after dinner conversation was certainly varied and to me inspiring as we all dug down into our memory and experience files in order to keep it going in this uplifting way. All in all it was a most pleasurable evening, spent with a 28 year old who has great intellect and is seeking to plan his  career so that his later years will be fruitful and profitable.

The unfortunate thing about Danial's career to date is that he is caught in Corporate America in a decent job that really is not stimulating enough for him and has a predictable cap on his salary that does not meet his hopes and dreams.

He appears to be caught in a situation in that he came into the work force at a time the country was in a depression and the available jobs were ones that while offering a steady job they were really a dead end for a person who wanted more. So, now if he ventures out he has to start at the bottom and although the his lifestyle is not extravagant, could not be supported by an entry job. I believe he has the wherewithal to work his way out of this. Interesting evening.

Not what I wanted to see, however, they are all shivering under rocks and darent to come out in cold weather! And, darn, I did not have my trusty snake killer machete on me.

Those are not apples, but 'galls' formed by the tree where a wasp has laid and egg and the tree develops this globular sac to protect itself. At least that is the way I understand it.

If you have good eyes you may see two babes winding up the trail...

And here as well. Nice country for walking.

This was the image that got stuck in my camera. Last night's fondue dinner with our hosts and Fellette
