Again, a shambles, 100 years later...

Sunday, April 9. Very warm and disorganized.

I had low expectations of today and it actually turned out better than expected.

We were away and on the coach with packed suitcases and all by 8:45. The security issues in the world today accounted for the horrendous line ups in the morning, accounting for some two hours just to get into the place where we then waited for the shuttle bus to get us to the memorial we then waited to get to where  we wanted to sit, in full sun on chairs at the back of the memorial or in some unknown spot  at the front of the memorial that entailed a one hour hike.

The area allotted to us was absolutely packed with people squatting in full sun. I will not continue the bitching least it took away from the importance of the occasion.

I took no photos, Craig did. So the photos are all his.

My negative comments are not meant to take away from the day, it was a good day in spite of arriving at 11:45 in Ypres, Belgium.

The monument early in the day.

A good picture of the front of the monument. The boots represent one for each soldier killed at Vimy.

Doug chatted with this young woman for some time while we waited three hours for the ceremony to start.

Good shot of the RCMP patrolling the perimeter.

At the end of the day as we waited in line for our shuttle back to our bus in the parking lot 12 miles away in Lens. We finally left the parking lot at 10.00 heading for Ypres in Belgium. We next got back on the coaches and headed to our destination in Brussels.

Long day...
