Friday, March 28. Cloudy, cooler. 75 C.
The ship came in early and we were off and waiting for our driver around 6.45. I made a call and he arrived around 7.30. After a 4 hour drive we arrived at our lodge and were unpacked and ready to go out at 12.30. However we had to eat first and then we went out on an afternoon game drive with young Josy, our British guide/driver.
The lodge is a private fenced preserve of about 2 1/2 square miles in a sand forest, dirt roads and driving tracks everywhere. There are 12 tents and there are eight guests, [four tents] here at this time. Now the afternoon is not the best time to go in the bush looking for game but we didn't do too bad. There are no lions or elephants in the estate because of the limited size.
We saw giraffe, wildebeest, impala, nyala, diker and numerous birds. This is not the Masa Mara but it sure is nice to be in Africa on a safari van again.
The accommodation is very nice, spacious tents with ensuite and indoor and outdoor shower and outdoor bath tub. We had a long day with the four hour drive and will hit the sack early tonight as we are scheduled to go on a 5.00 am game drive to a very large park tomorrow, [Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park] returning around 10.00 for breakfast, no rest for the wicked. All the big five are there but we do not expect to see them all but some are hopeful.
Not too bad for the few hours we have been here I would say.
Pics.
A smattering of pictures in no order. I am very rushed to try and get this away before dinner, it is getting dark and the reception area is some distance away and the internet shuts after dinner I am told. Besides that there are some funny noises coming from the surrounding bush, but I have convinced myself that they are frogs, big frogs!
