Sunday, August 26. Rain stopped overnight.
We boarded our busses for a short but very bumpy ride to see some interesting rock formations and quick stop at a gift shop in a Ger.
Next was a visit to a family living in a Ger. They move four times a year to one of four areas that they rotate to each three months, spring, summer, fall and winter.
Winter is where they have facilities to keep their domestic animals like sheep, cattle and goats.
The horses are a different matter. I believe that they are let loose all the time, being rounded up on almost a daily basis and only using most of the for three months of the year.
The boys at least learn to ride at six or seven. The school for this family, we were told was 27 Kms away. They get there by horse somehow with a parent I assume.
Inside their Ger we sat and were told of Mongol life by our guide, Jack. We all had a drink of fermented mare's milk, ugh, and a piece of cows cheese, bland.
It was a very interesting night, morning and visit to the surrounding countryside.
The rest of our group, five, who spent the night in a hotel in the city came up for lunch and a bit of a Mongolian Show with us.
We then return to the train and carry on our merry way.
Absolutely wonderful time while here, marvellous.
I hope to send pictures later of our afternoon here.
