Saturday morning, August 18. Beautiful summer day.
Last night was sure rocking and rolling! It seems that at night my imagination takes over and I think we have a suicide engineer at the throttle. We covered several hundred kilometres overnight and I have yet to hear a train horn.
In the dining car we are designated to eat in, there are only four English Speaking people, us and two in or group. The rest are French or Germans. All are pleasant enough people, not at all loud or rough.
It is nice to have a chance to be on our own after a few days of intenseness with touring on foot or the coach.
Food and eating is easy on the train. Everything tastes a bit different than at home, the coffee here is great, that is a nice start to the day.
I am going to try doing the blog through 'Mail' in my computer, that way I can compose it at my leisure and send it when connected. The usual way is to compose it on the blog website but I have to be online to do that and the internet is spotty.
We come into the city of Kazan shortly and spend the day there, from 9 to 4. I will send this as a test to see how it works.
A few minutes ago we crossed the Volga River, rather large!
Pavel, our conductor.
Our cabin nameplate outside.
Minutes after boarding, tea and beer!
Cozy getting dressed in the morning after a shower.
Lots of wheat farms.
