Hot as heck.

We were taken ashore by tenders around 9:30 this morning as we were anchored about a mile and a half off the island. It is called Isla de Providencia. Founded by English Puritains around 1620. The colony was not successful and they moved to North America quite quickly. But the place was now English. Pirates, including captain Morgan and Drake set up a base here, raiding the Spanish as their treasure ships left for Spain laden with silver and gold which was transported over the Ithmus of Panama trail just south of here.

We first did a very hefty walk in gruelling sun crossing over a foot bridge to Catalina Island. Then we took a cab ride around the island which is surprisingly neat and tidy in most cases. However the tropics has its toll on people and property and underneath is that sense of all being happy on the outside but a built in sense of uncleanliness is prevailing. My thoughts at least.

A tender back to the ship followed by a very cool shower and I fell asleep for the afternoon while Fellette, who suffers the heat more than I, did her craft project and got her journal up to date. Next was dinner and an inteeesting conversation with a couple, the lady of which lost her short term memory two years ago while travelling. Wow, and we think we have issues.

The phone was in use today, as was texting. I spoke to all three kids today, great.

Tomorrow is white water rafting, a first for us.

The blog is going to be difficult to handle on the cruise I think.  The best we can come up with is for me to send an email to Craig every day and he will post it in the morning. Pictures will be posted, but likely not part of the actual blog.

The day in pictures...
