Tuesday, February 14. The Sick, the Lame and the Lazy...

Granddaughter Angela's birthday. Hot, muggy, 34C/93F.

Did you see the temperature???

After a very rocky two day journey, we docked in Rio de Janeiro early this morning. We very slowly came to life, checked the heat situation, got dressed and had breakfast.

By this time the ship had been cleared by Brazilian officials and people were streaming off the ship like little ants far below, piling into the awaiting buses and touring vans. At breakfast we had our choice of tables as it seemed that the only people aboard were the sick, the lame and the lazy. [That is what people who want to see the doctor in the army are called].

We both have the cold and were sniffling and coughing so the prospects of a long day in Rio looked a bit dim for us both. Jim and Gail are off on tour with their travel agent's tour.

After breakfast, I needed a nap, I was weak as heck and could not face the streets in that heat feeling like I did. So after checking out the new terminal and sorting out Fellette's 420 unread emails we walked back to the ship and its comfortable climate. The 420 unread emails was some glitch that appeared and brought up emails that had already been read. I have mentioned before that iPads and computers do not like to travel, they work best where they live!

Our day aboard enabled us to rest and prepare for an evening out with Jim and Gail as we are booked for an Evening out in Rio: Samba Show. That's what it says on the ticket. We shall see how the evening goes. I will report on that in tomorrow's blog as we will be getting in late tonight.

I believe this is an unregulated settlement built by low income people.

A panorama, distorted, of the view from the other side of the ship.

Note the line of buses early am on bottom left. The cruise terminals were constructed or refurbished for the Olympics this last year so everything in this area looks brisk and clean

Inside the terminal where the free wi-Fi was fast and the company was great.

A museum built for the Olympics.

Christ the Redeemer on a distant hill from the ship. This is one of the most popular tourist sights in Rio and the place is teeming with people. To some it is a Pilgrimage, to others: 'Get a photo and get out'. We have made the trip up there twice before and I don't think it is on our agenda for tomorrow. [Check out the weather folks!]
