Wednesday, February 15. Paying for our sins...

Sinfully hot...

Today is a day in port and for us two it is a 'Day In Our Cabin', nursing our colds and trying to prevent spreading it to others. Maybe we are paying for our Day of Sin last evening by attending a Carnival Presentation.

Argentina has the Tango and Brazil has the Samba. The Tango is a very sensual dance that has been turned into an Art Form. The Samba has been turned into a Carnival. We went to see what we thought was a Samba show but that would have been boring after a bit. This show was very loud and very audacious in it's colour and over the top costumes for male and female performers.

I could not get my camera taking acceptable pictures until the end of the show and please understand we were in very crowded space and there were people sitting right in front, and behind me.

Fellette and I rested all day yesterday and then got cleaned up and left the ship around 8.30, us, Jim and Gail and 60 others from the ship. The auditorium likely had close to 300 people in a room that was made for 150. Imagine the headline: "180 burned to death in overcrowded Rio night club"

After we settled in we were given one free high powered drink and then two perfectly formed brown lithe females in less than scanty attire and one tall handsome gent , well clothed [?] circulated and we were sort of coerced into having a photo taken.

This done, the show started and it was non stop for a bit short of 1 1/2 hours, costumes, gymnastics of a Brazilian martial art display, drumming, bolo swinging beyond fantastic. The lot, you name it. As I said, I only got my camera working near the end that is why I only got women in the pics. [Sure Doug, we believe you.] We got back to the ship around midnight.

Our colds are still with us today, only worse, sneezing, runny nose, the lot.

We sail this afternoon at 4:00 for Salvador, Brazil and in the general direction of the Amazon River which we sail well up into and are in that area for several days. I guess we will find out what hot and muggy really feels like eh?

I sure wish we could get some decent news reporting on this ship. All we have is two stations on either side of the political spectrum talking about Trumpty Dumpy in an endless circle of tit for tat. BBC is here but they seem to spend an awful lot of time talking about Pakistan and places that I have no interest in. Canada does not exist it seems! And in reality folks, we don't really matter in the whole scheme of things.

These costumes were the winners in last years Carnival, in some category.

Imagine parading in this for a few hours.

Ouch!

Relax Doug...

Kind of mundane eh? But the best looking lady in the house last night, to me.

On the Beach in Rio last night at 11.30 PM. Going full bore, volleyball, jogging, talking, relaxing, drinking. Its the thing to do apparently.

Today, we repent our night out as we gobble these things on a regular basis.
