And Then There Was Africa...

Wednesday February 19. Beautiful spring weather.

The last sleep on the ship coming up tonight. Packing is all done and bags go out tonight before bed time.

Today could be a very busy day, if you want to have it that way. Fellette has two Choir Rehearsals today and one performance. The choir was a Godsend for her on this voyage, it gave her an opportunity to sing every sea day which is really more often that had she been at home.

Tomorrow morning some 450 people get off, and 458 get on and about 100 stay on. The ships sails the same day and then has another month to get to Dover, completing a five month voyage.  That is a long time on any ship!

I have now settled our account on board and we are prepared to venture out into the 'real world'. Since early January we have been in the loving tender hands of Fred Olsen Cruise Lines who have looked after us almost every minute, they have fed us, entertained us, kept us comfortable and even gave us a programme every night telling us what will happen tomorrow! From the minute we step off the ship tomorrow we are again in control of our own destiny.

That fact will not really sink in until we disembark around 8:30 to 9:00 when, we will attempt, and succeed, to get a cab to our hotel for the night, The Taj Dubai. We are hoping for a miracle and get 'Early Check-in' around 10:00 in the morning. Good luck Doug. Regardless, we will leave our bags and explore downtown Dubai.

Fellette and I do not have any idea of what to except that it is one very big and expensive Arab city. Will everybody speak English?  It is going to be very interesting learning curve for sure.

Great way to get a really good suntan, and cancer.
After tonight we will be  exactly 12 hours ahead, or behind, of west coast time.
We will be in a very busy part of the world later tonight. The Straits of Hormuz and the surrounding sea lanes are patrolled by UN ships.
Out of the closets...
...and into the cases.
Last one, all done.
The left half of the final choir performance for Fellette. Right side.
