Rained Out in Stonehenge...

Sunday September 22. Rainy, sometime in torrents. 18 C.

We were up at our usual 5:00 am for coffee, then bags out, then breakfast, then a wait, then on the coach to Stonehenge where we parked the bus and then queued up for the six minute coach ride to the actual Standing Stones, as they are now called. There was some rain on the way down but had fortunately mostly stopped before we got to Stonehenge.

The rain started again as we were in the slow-moving line-up, that took a half hour, to get on the coach to ride the 1/2 mile to see the actual Standing Stones. Then the heavens opened up! In Biblical Proportions!! We all got off the coach at the actual site as the rain belted down. The line up to get back to where we started was longer than the original lineup, so we hightailed it up to the Standing Stones, took two picture and headed back to the end of the lineup for the return trip. By now we were both soaked through to our underwear. Without an umbrella or waterproof tops. The water had soaked through my boots and Fellette's runners. It was absolutely devastating and unimaginable but nobody could do anything it all. Even people with umbrellas and jackets were soaked to the skin, it was beyond description. And, it was still bucketing down and the sidewalk was now a small stream. Eventually we got back and into the comfort of a dry roof over our head in the bus.

Amazingly, all of the people who were on the bus were back within a few minutes of each other in spite of some being physically handicapped.

We made it to the ship and each had a fully immersed hot soapy bath. The evening went fine after that and we are now settled down and were in a Specialty Restaurant as we pulled out of Southampton at 7:00 pm. Like it never happened! Our main issue right now is how to get our boots and shoes dry.

An Interesting Day!

Waiting to board the coach at our hotel this morning. Find Fellette.

Distant shot of our destination.

Soaked to the skin and the worst was yet to come.

The shot that we came for and as close as you can get now. In an earlier trip we could walk up and touch the stones.

This is the view as we approached the ship.

A hot Bubble Bath for Fellette to warm up.

Dinner tonight. What rain?

Dessert: Opera Cake and Chocolate Balls. We have not seen them for a few years. The dinner and service was excellent, we went to a Specialty Restaurant tonight, one of four on this tiny ship, included at no charge with the pricey cruise fare.
