Tuesday, January 12. Force 9 gale, high seas, awkward walking about.
The night was custom made for a rather restless sleep, particularly for Fellette. After a rather smooth ride so far, after 10 PM it started to get rather rocky. During the night it got continually rougher until the creaking and shuddering made sleep impossible. The hours dragged on. At four I was up reading, at five I was uptop checking the email, at 5.30 I was having coffe and reading in the upstairs buffet where I had breakfast, alone, at seven.
Then down to the cabin where my much younger wife had finally fallen into an exhausted deep sleep.
At nine she came to life and we went up top and had a light breakfast, the second for me. Ian and Judy had a similar night and we never met for breakfast. The morning whiled away for both of us and most of the passengers hunkered down in their cabins.
Then, a light lunch, an interesting talk by a former Chief Inspector in the Birmingham Police, a short read, another nap and time to get dressed for dinner, the Captain's welcome dinner.
The reception was held on the covered pool deck, level nine, so we were moving around quite a bit. A few humorous words from the Commodore of P & O, who is our captain, and down to dinner.
Only one absentee, and it was revealed that all of us had a similar day. None that we know are actually sick, it is just that there is some deep down feeling that the best thing is to be sitting or prone, and keep something in your stomach.
Tomorrow we are hopeful of blue sky, calm seas and shorts and Tee-shirts!
