First day at sea...
Monday January 11. Cool in the morning but shirtsleeves outside by noon!
Last night at dinner we met our table mates, which can always be an interesting experience. Once again it was a pleasure, more soft spoken pleasant Brits.
We had a great sleep, lulled to slumberland by the engines and the ocean. Fellette went from 9.30 to 7, I read for a while at four and was up at 6.30. Kippers for breakfast. At a table with a woman travelling alone for the first time without her husband who passed away 18 months ago. I said it was brave of her, she said either that or foolish. She will be fine, she has so many things she wants to do, computer, camera classes, lectures etc.
During the last few hours we have talked to many people who are doing the whole World Cruise, about 1000 of the 1700 aboard. The excitement of places they are going to visit rekindles the same feeling in us, except we get off in three weeks: Petra, the Pyramids, Viet Nam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia etc. My gosh, it is a different world on board.
After kippers I had one goal: Get hooked up to the internet. I had typed up the blog in my mail programme, and did the same with some pictures, and a few emails to others. I then took my computer up on the outside pool deck, [shirtsleeves weather], and turned my computer on with baited breath. BINGO, up pops a signal and in a matter of minutes I am on-line and sending my life-line to the outside world, anxious to see at what speed we are working at. My gosh it was faster than in the hotel in Southampton!!!
There is not a lot of good photographic opportunity on board unfortunately. The ship is very nice but it is not at all like the Princess ship we were on in the summer, which had a beautiful and homey decor and feel to it. This one is a bit conservative, just like the passengers, but very pleasant.
By the way, the food and service at the table was excellent. P & O, the Cruise Line, has a tradition of hiring Goanese people. [Goa is a province of India I think?], on the lower west side They are renown for their gentleness and politeness. We have missed that in the last few cruises, nice to be back to that atmosphere. Gee, I wonder if I can steal one and take him home? Fellette says that I promised her some 'help' in the new house, but I do not remember talking about that subject!
A somewhat nothing day at sea, but we are beginning to relax.
