It has become almost an obsession with me since we decided to go that route in April. I have never had so much fun in my life, I have always wanted to build but it just never seemed to come together.
Since we sold the Farm to Jeanette and Robert 13 years ago we have never had a workshop or garden at hand, nor a garage that can hold all three vehicles. So we are going to fix that!
The house has been under construction for about three months and is now at the stage that it is basically ready to be 'locked up': Framed, roof on and windows and exterior doors in. Now the wiring, plumbing, heating system, alarms and cable, telephone, and data lines get roughed in. All that will happen while Fellette and I and our friends from England are travelling about, hopefully in sunny weather.
We return on February 27, hopefully with all that rough-in work done and approved by inspectors. Fellette and I and the contractor will then walk through the house, make any alterations or corrections and then it will get insulated and boarded up.
The contractor does appreciate the two months time to get all that work done with rushing it, and without me on his tail. He does not expect our absence to delay the build by much, if at all.
Personally I think he will look forward to doing his thing while we are away and having us happy with what he has done. We get along exceptionally well. We also feel very very comfortable in having the build proceed in our absence, and, I need a bit of a rest, it has been a very intense nine months. So does Fellette, she works as hard at it as I do, maybe harder because of my intensity.
This is what the build looked like a few days ago. It will be somewhat changed in the two months we are away.
We leave all this behind on Wednesday around 3.00 PM when we leave for the airport. Tuesday is another very, very busy day for me, building-wise. Fellette is devoting the day to really, really, finishing arrangements to leave the house tomorrow!
