Sunday January 12. Very warm and muggy, [but lovely in our cabin!]
As we were entering the dockyard we waved at Jim and Gail as they were on a shuttle bus heading to town. Nice to see a familiar face.
It has been quite a journey but worth it methinks. We were on board and in our cabin by 9:45 AM to a welcoming ship and crew. We came down in a pickup truck from the hotel that was about to head for the airport. Such is life in rural New Guinea.
We checked in to the ship and immediately did some preliminary unpacking and sorting then Fellette got down to seriously unpacking. When that happens, I step aside.
Jim and Gail were back on board by 11:30 after a walkabout in town. We had lunch with them and then explored the ship together.
The ship is much, much nicer than I ever imagined and the passengers appear to be decent and civil people, from mixed countries. We are not the oldest, nor the youngest.
I got hooked up to the internet in the room easy enough and started to experiment with downloading, uploading etc., to try and figure out the best way to do the blog. I got that sorted out in short order.
We then resumed our sorting out in the room. We are emotionally, physically and mentally drained as well as somewhat dehydrated as the heat takes more moisture of of us than we think. It has been a very interesting few days!
A bread crocodile in the breakfast room at the hotel this morning.
Around 8:45 we saw the ship moor from the hotel beach front.
78 years ago the Japanese sailed in there.
Part of the hotel grounds.
Our room was up top second from the left.
Awaiting security clearance outside the harbour gate, short and sweet.
Welcoming dancers.
Pinch me, "Are we really on board?"
Happy together again! Gail, Jim and my first wife.
Lunch, yes back into the fantasy life!
That is a humungous Roast Pork, British Style with lots of crackling!
Yup, a chance to overeat for a few days.
On deck after lunch.
