A First For Us...

Friday, March 17. [St. Patrick’s day.] 21 C. Anchored off Lüderitz. Namibia.

For the first time, ever, in our cruising life, we did not go ashore in a foreign port, except once or twice when we have been ill. This is a very big First' for us. It may seem trivial to others but not to us. It indicates that the era of long cruises is drawing to an end for us.

Lüderitz is definitely not the most interesting port in the world, quite the contrary. We have been here a few times before, had fun once in the dunes, and another on a desert exploration, and once just walking around in the drab city with a colourful past. There is lots of history here and some great photographic opportunities, but we decided to have a day off. I did some time in the gym, hoping to keep my legs from getting old before my mind does just that, Fellette is quite happy to knit, read and do iPad therapy. She too is on the same path as me.

We are 57% of the way through this cruise and have a very, very busy time the next 56 days. However, our mind does periodically take over and we often think about 'When we get home'.

We have 33 ports in those 56 days. That is a meat grinder of activity, we knew that when we booked this cruise. I venture to say that several of those ports will be spent on the ship, or merely venturing off for a rather nice walk on the streets for a meal, a drink and take it all in: a relaxing day in port, rather than an organized busy tour. At least that is the way we feel right now. Life is good, but let’s try to get the balance right!

Tonight is what is called a Dressy Night, Jim put on his Tux and I gussied up somewhat as well. The ladies always look classy!

Tomorrow, we are on a Four Wheel Drive Tour, a bouncy uncomfortable fun drive out into the Dunes and Desert just to make believe we are 30 years younger! The Cutlers are elsewhere.

A Very Good Day…

On the other side of the anchored ship, we are trying to figure what the white dusting is on the foreshore. Not snow, could be blown sand, salt spray or just white rocks.

Jim and Gail dropped by on the way down.
