Thursday, March 9. Mildly rolling seas, clear sky. 27 C. [Hot, Hot, Hot and humid.]
A Sea Day, on the way to Durban where we have a short afternoon tour. We will be in Zulu Country, home of the Zulu King Shaka Zulu who was a real person, not make believe. He was truly a powerful and merciless ruler, as the TV programme illustrated.
From Durban, there are passengers departing for four-day overland trips to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, then to Chobe Botswana. For those people going, if it is their first Safari trip, it will be a trip of a lifetime for them for sure. It is a busy four days with some flights included. They will re-join the ship in Cape Town next week. The cost is U$6700 per person. It is probably cheaper than flying from your home, but if you flew from home, you would have more than four days at your disposal to see it at a much more leisurely pace.
However, many of the participants will be rather elderly, but up to the challenge, and this may be the only or last chance to experience the Safari Experience. Good on them I say. We have two table mates who are taking a bit shorter Overland Trip and thoroughly looking forward to it. We are looking forward to hearing how it went for them. Maybe even a bit jealous!
We are scheduled for three ports in three days starting tomorrow. That is a bit of a grind but hopefully excitement will overcome fatigue. After Durban is East London, then Port Elizabeth, a day at sea and then The Big One: Cape Town on the 14th. I am hopeful that with proper care and modest walking, my feet will remain happy those busy days ahead.
Easy day...
Fellette wiled away her spare time today working on her next blanket.
