Thursday, March 16. Heading up North in the Southern Atlantic Ocean hence the cooler weather.
Through the early part of the day we were greeted with thick fog which happens along this stretch of West Africa. Namibia is always foggy because of the cold Ocean Current of Benguela which takes glacial waters from the depths of the Atlantic to the western coastline of South Africa and Namibia.
Our day was passed very nicely with a couple of talks, one on the coming three ports, two in Namibia and the next in Angola. The second was on the birth of South Africa as a Western Nation. This was given by a very gifted story-teller who talked non-stop for 55 minutes without even a swig of water! It was interesting how he weaved interesting tid-bits of happenings over a 10 year period of time in his research into writing a book.
Nothing has changed over the years: Cecil Rhodes, who was a loved champion is now a Villain, and, Trump, who was so popular is now a scoundrel! [So what’s new?]
Tomorrow we are in Lüderitz, Namibia. Tendering, for those going ashore.
A Relaxing Day…
This is my Great Uncle, Frank Robins. He was in the British Army: King’s Royal Rifle Corps in Cape Town, 1900. My Father is named after him.
Son Craig has his Medal for the Boer War. He has the bar to his South Africa medal for the 'Defence of Ladysmith'.
