Tuesday, March 14. Docked in CapeTown, South Africa. Sunny sky, 24 C. Day 70 of 128.
We were off the ship around 9:00 and soon on the way to an Ostrich Farm about 3/4 of an hour out of Cape Town. We were told everything we ever wanted to know about that funny bird. They also had other large flightless birds, tortoises and assorted farm animals. The main attraction seemed to be the gift shop where the fact that something cost a few thousand Rand did not matter. Have you heard of YOLO? “You Only Live Once.” I heard that in the shop today as women fell in love with Ostrich Leather handbags of all sizes.
From there we buzzed to a Winery across the valley a bit where five samples of wines seemed to loosen peoples tongues and opened wallets when we discovered that the average price of a bottle of great wine was around U$6.50 compared to over $30.00 if buying on the ship. A glass of the cheapest wine is U$7.00 on the ship. But there is more to Cape Town than wine though folks.
We were back on the ship around 2:00, grabbed a bite to eat at the Neptune Lounge, got cleaned up a bit and went out for dinner at the Victoria and Albert Waterfront for Fish and Chips where we have had that meal with son Craig and sister Moe. We have eaten there with Jim and Gail as well but Jim usually has some wild game like Kudu, Elan or such.
In town today we knocked a few things off our shopping list and eventually found a place on the waterfront where we had a great dinner of, mussels, fish and chips, beer and wine. And that was just for me! We have been planning this for months, nay, years!
We are in Cape Town overnight, going shopping tomorrow and sailing at 11:00 when we will be sound asleep, that I know.
A Very Good Day…
Where we are in this crazy word. Bottom left of Africa, heading north tomorrow night.
Right here!

The Ostrich Farm
Yup, Fellette on an ostrich!
And Jim with a tortoise that just peed on him, as on Fellette!
Doug and his Big Gun Pose!
