Amsterdam: Day 1...

Tuesday, April 18. Docked at/near Amsterdam. 12C. Cloudy skies, some wind. Cold!.

Day 105, 23 to go.

We were already in Amsterdam before Fellette and I awoke this morning. The port days are tiring, but fun and we slept in a bit. We caught up quickly as we were on tour this morning: off on a four hour tour of Keukenhof Gardens, a one hour coach ride away. We arrived a bit later than scheduled and that cut into the two hours we were to have spent there. Not to worry, you can’t even take it all in even if we had six hours, if you are a garden lover.

When we arrived at the Centre it was a mass of people, unbelievable crowds, beyond comprehension or expression. Maximum is 45,000 a day. We split with Jim and Gail as soon as we entered as it is impossible to keep together except as a family or a single couple.

Fellette and I have been here before, with Ian and Judy while in The Netherlands on a week or 10 day, Amsterdam to Amsterdam cruise several years ago, then we had several hours to linger here, and it was also later and warmer. We wanted to get some bulbs so we sat down with the Catalogue and ordered some that will be shipped in September, when they should be planted.

Back on the ship soon and grabbed a bite to eat, did the blog, had a nap and prepared for an evening of celebration as the President of Holland America is coming aboard today and staying on until we get into Copenhagen, this Friday, April 23. Not sure if we can stay awake to see this as the bed looks so beckoning.

Today I climbed some stairs that were not rocking, for the first time in a few months!

'Twas A Cold And Blustery And Interesting Day…

Our Safety Tug Boat this morning.

Yup, 7,000,000 plants growing, not for blooms but the bulbs!

More.

More.

Not sure what these workers are doing. Working, I know.

Just to make it look like we are in Holland. [The Netherlands more correctly.]

A mound of tulips. I took it so you can grasp the number of people: at the top of the mound.

No bulbs today honey!

She is getting too big for her shoes, or has she outgrown them?

We found our old Family VW Van here today.

And the Vespa Scooter we buzzed around here in 1960.

Fellette said I should be in a picture today, so here I am.

Just a bed of fun tulips.

Fun Makers in a bed...

Table Mates, Adrienne left and Ardis, right. Widowed sisters 83 and 81 respectively.

Fellette needed a new toque today.

Aboard, and the decorators are getting ready for a Deck Celebration tonight at 9:00 pm.

On a covered deck, for the party tonight. Good luck getting a seat, but the wine is free so there will be plenty sitting there long before the scheduled time, you can be sure of that!
