Saturday, April 1. Choppy seas, hazy visibility, cooler. 20 C. Day 88. Home in 40 days.
We crossed The Tropic of Cancer this morning but we don’t need a map to tell us that: it is noticeably cooler.
We did our usual morning: choir and exercise. I made the mistake of taking a Chlor Tripholon in an attempt to clear up an issue with my itchy eyes. Big mistake as after I came back from the gym I needed a rest I just felt sleepy. So, I listened to my body and rested!
I did, finally, get a page print-out of the remaining Shore Excursions. This has been quite a job compared to being at home. The WORD Programme has been highly uncooperative with me for the past two months. I think I now have it under control.
Today, the ship is having an event called a ‘Block Party’. That is when, at about 4:00 pm, your cabin door is knocked upon and a steward calls out Block Party! You are then supposed to open your door, pop out into the corridor, empty wine glass in hand, and join your neighbours in the free wine that is poured by officers and stewards for the next 45 minutes. Today, Fellette, who does not drink, and I am not going to participate. There is just too much drinking encouraged on this ship. Period.
Land Ho tomorrow morning, Santa Cruz, Tenerife, Canary Islands, [Spain]. We and the Cutlers are on a sensible 4 1/2 hour morning tour. This will be the first time we have been in a First World Port since we left Australia February 22, that is 5 1/2 weeks ago.
I won’t say that I have enjoyed seeing what we did of West Africa, but am glad that we did stop in as we were going that way anyhow! Some people wonder why we stopped at all. I believe that all, were appalled at the poverty and litter. Some no doubt probably thought it was wonderful. To each his own, I am quite happy at this time to step back into reality and a world that I can understand and relate to, with all its faults. And that’s the way I see it!
Lastly, the Block Party went on without us. Jim and Gail chose to eat at the Lido so dinner was The Girls and just us. Great conversation, to bed early, as we have an excursion tomorrow.
A Good Day Here…
Fellette wiled away the day working on that new-to-her partly done blanket.
Tonights Menu was unique. Free Bubbly wine, unexpected, and a good selection of main courses: surf and turf , small lobster and filet the most popular, and delicious! You would never know there was a shortage of some foods on the ship. The coloured bread was unappealing to me: April fools stuff...
