Ghent, Belgium...

Monday, April 17. In Zeebrugge, Belgium. 10 C. Day 104. Three weeks and three days to go.

Off at 9:30 on a coach to Ghent, where, after a walk to the River Leie we 48 boarded an open long river boat, very closely seated together for an hour boat ride around the old section of Ghent. Somehow this place escaped being flattened in WW II. It was chilly but closeness made it not seem so much. Architecture was the thing. Every few seconds I could spot a great photo, but you can only take so many photos of very ancient buildings! The maintenance costs on those building on the river must be horrendous.

We ended up with an hour to shop and wander. However, We Four scoped out a covered river side  cafe with a few gas fireplaces burning, and there we sat, with warm hats, coats and sweaters plus red blankets for added warmth. The menu was a bit vague but the waiter spoke English and we ended up with a lunch of cheese and sliced meats. The Cutlers ordered a Belgian banana Waffle with whipped cream and offered us a taste. Delicious!

While they were checking out the menu I whipped across the cobblestone walkway and spent too much for Belgian chocolates for special people back home. [If the chocolates survive the trip home!]

Next on the bus for a quick hour journey to the ship and warmth. Five hours well spent.

An Good Day…
