Saturday, April 8. Docked in Malaga. 11 C in the morning, warmed up later nicely. Day 95. Home in 33 Moe.
This morning at 6:00 am we saw our first sighting of Europe on this trip, it is also several years since we have actually been in Europe at all, so long ago that we cannot quickly place the date. Hmmmm, bad sign Doug!
We also made a Full Circle in Casablanca when we were there a couple of days ago. We Four flew out of Casablanca May 6, 2020 to Montreal, coming home from our 'Australia to Morocco' expedition. We came home to Covid and Fellette and I have not travelled until we left on this trip, three years later.
In Malaga today I hope to have a sentimental leisurely stroll and a bite to eat with my much younger wife. When I was last here in March or April 1960, 63 years ago, I was buzzing around Europe on an underpowered Vespa 125 Motor Scooter: Two of us on one scooter! My, how things have changed!
The Meat-Grinder of successive Port Days in April is upon us, however, if we have a reasonable walk or short tour in the morning, I feel that my foot will make the trip home in workable and tolerable condition!

Hours later: We went ashore with Jim and Gail on the shuttle to town, where we parted, the Cutler’s on a more energetic walk than Fellette and I. We/I, wanted a more leisurely stroll along the tree-lined boulevard with Fellette, where I wandered 63 years ago, 18 months before Fellette and I met!
We did just that, have a pleasant day, alone speaking only to Europeans today, a change from the last three months. We also had the experience of learning how to order a Cappachino and a specific pastry in a Sidewalk Cafe. Interesting, and one must be patient! Delightful.
We put a lot of mileage on today, but it was at our pace with a couple of stops amongst the palms and shade. It is Saturday and the families, lovers and old timers were out just being Spanish, we are in this group, in all three categories! It was a great spring day to be alive, in Malaga and sailing around the world! Does it get any better?
While walking back to the ship, we ended up chatting with a friendly trio. A woman of about 51 with her mother and father. Mom was Spanish, about 70, Dad was German, about 75, the woman was the daughter of the couple, a citizen of Europe. The daughter had excellent English, polite and well spoken, she has a son, 19, living in Northern Spain with her, her ex, a Frenchman living across the northern Spain/France border. Talk about mixed nations, which mean less in Europe than to us in North America. Many in Europe do not consider individual countries, but rather, The ‘EU’.
We talked for about an hour having a wonderful conversation about the EU, its pluses and minuses and what it was like living in it. The whole time was so refreshing and comfortable it was amazing. The bright sunny temperate day made it easy to feel euphoric today.
Fellette and I ended up walking full circle, back to the ship and in our room by 1:00 pm. I downloaded my pictures and whipped up to the gym to get some shoulder and hip exercises, then to do the blog and relax in our quiet and comfortable cabin.
A Very Good Day…
Good Morning Malaga and Europe!
We even saw Joggers today! How refreshing, I wonder why nobody jogs in Africa?
Spring is trying to come out here.
Sun without the sweat. Perfect.
Does it get more Spanish/Mediterranean?
Spanish pastries.
Tempting and we succumbed.
Pastry and Cappuccino.
No longer African clothing but beautiful stylish flowery European. Refreshing.
This reminded Mum of Auntie Myra’s cow at the Farm!
